Any time we gather to inaugurate a president, we bear witness to the enduring strength of our constitution. We affirm the promise of our democracy. We recall that what binds this institution together is not the department or the schools.
The patriots of 1997, who saw the need for the establishment of the SRC did not fight to replace the unrestrained exercise of power of a king with privileges of a few, or the rule of a mob. They gave us a council, government of, and by, and for the people. Entrusting each generation to keep safe our founding beliefs. But we have failed and loss truck upon which the SRC was established. Simply because the student body has loss trust in the SRC and the SRC has also loss his grounds in defending and ensuring the welfare of the students. But I believe the time has come for us to put our differences away and stand together and vowed to move forward together.
Together we can fulfill the prime aim of every student on campus that is achieving academic excellence by putting in place appropriate infrastructure like summer hats or study cubicles with seats and table with proper lighting system to enhance individual studies or group meetings. Together we can stand against hostel owners from charging exorbitance accommodation fee by we building our own hostel and renting it out to our students at an affordable rate. Together we can remind management and the government that, Koforidua polytechnic is a public institution and that our fees needs to be moderate and should not be compare to the private institution. Together we can make our SRC week celebration recognize and observe by management and the lecturers so that students wouldn’t have to be attending lectures and even writing mid-semester exams during the week celebration. I will also like to use this opportunity to make a passionate appeal to the dean of students that, the SRC executives are capable of handling the affairs of the SRC and that he should advise us about things we want to do and not insist on what he wants us to do. We believe if these things are taken into consideration, we as institution will continue to enjoy the peace that has existed for sometimes now on our campus. Now, more than ever, we must do these things together as one institution and one people.
I have taken an oath that as the SRC president, I will work hard to place us on the right path, and I will lead us over the obstacle and past the obstacles that might threaten to keep us from meeting our goals. The promise that I have made are promise that I intend to keep. But as Isaac Newton said “I was able to see farther than others because I stood on the shoulders of giants.” So please I will be counting on you to maintain the faith and the trust that you have placed in me as the SRC president. I will not let you down
Of course, every society has its share of people who would rather talk and complain about what is wrong, than devote their time and effort to do what it takes to make things right. At every given opportunity, they will tell us all the things we cannot achieve and all the reason why we should not even attempt. The choice is ours to believe or not to believe. We can look within ourselves and choose to see the lie of our powerlessness or we can see the unlimited horizon of our own potential.
Nelson Mandela once said, ‘it always seem impossible until it is done’ I believe that with God and in Koforidua polytechnic, all things are possible. I believe this is because I have seen the work and accomplishments of my predecessors, president Diana, president Nii Tawiah, president Herman Sintim Aboagye, president Titus, president Kassim Zakariah. We were all witness to the way they were able to take what others said it was impossible and to not only turn into something that was probable, but to relise their vision and get it there. To then say “AYEKOO” I am ever grateful to have the advantage of your wisdom and the important lessons of your leadership.
Koforidua polytechnic SRC will be a place where transformation opportunities are available to everyone. I recognize the vital role that management especially the Rector, Vice Rector, Registrar, D.F.O and the Deans play in the expansion of our work force as well as in the growth and stability of our affairs. I want to assure management that I will work with them peacefully. I will extend whatever support I am able to reinforce your contribution to a development. Let us all stand, not as separate entities but as partners. Together we will build a polytechnic that will be source of pride for all of us.
